An International journalist!!!!!

Who would have thought that little old me would be in the best selling bike magazine in Africa... Not me for a start!!

Well I am and as you read this, copies are winging their way back to the UK. I am very pleased with the article and was able to write it in my own words. Simon the owner of "Bike SA" is a really nice "Oak" and has treated me so well (as have all the south Africans and Brits I have met) infact "well" is not a big enough word!! The people over here have been unbelievably kind to me and made me feel so welcome. Simon left out one of many road tests he had lined up to feature in the feb edition to put in mine and Rogers adventure. Thanks again Simon :-) The trouble is, I have a taste now and as soon as I get to OZ I will be banging on the door of the OZ magazine asking if I can do it there!!!

I had to laugh the other day I was in Jo-Burg having a beer with Roger and Simons son Donavan and a very well known South African singer/song writer Wess-Lee (www.wess-lee.com) We ended up in a cocktail bar in a very nice part of town where Wess and myself where downing Tequilas at the bar. Some friends of hers came to join us for some "chocolate cake" cocktails and she introduced me as a bike journalist from the UK!! I loved it, its so much better than a "soil removal technician" or a dirty old digger driver!! I will be putting the whole article on my website before I leave for OZ I hope. I have done so much since I have been here and will be sorry to leave Africa but this is meant to be a world trip (just hope I have enough money left!!!) By the time you are reading this I will be back in Capetown visiting my friends Mike and Marian. I would have traveled down from Klerksdorp through the mountain kingdom of Lesotho (pronounced Lesutoo) along the coast through the garden route and down to the Cape. Another stamp in my rather well stamped passport!! And about 2500 Ks of driving!! Lucky I have hired a new Mazda 3 with air-con :-)
Africa is, as they say a relatively cheap place to visit especially with the exchange rate but it does end up being quite expensive because there is no public transport and to hitch hike is out of the question!! So getting around requires the hiring of a car or bike. And this is not so cheap!! Comparable to home I would say. I have just spent the weekend with Seun and Jackie some friends from Klerksdorp who have very kindly put me up and fed me with some traditional south African food. After my trip to the Cape I will be returning to spend my last week in SA with them and there two children Monique and Verschka.
