Traditional English Roast dinner and a snap light!!
I had been staying with my friends Seun and Jackie at Klerksdorp for a while when I decided I should cook them dinner. I suggested it to them and they were willing to risk a poisoning!! The next day I borrowed Seuns bakkie and drove into town to search out the ingredients. I found all that I needed including horseradish sauce (forgot it til after dinner tho! Doh) I went to the local butchers and got a huge lump of silverside for only 6 pound (it would have been at least 25 in the UK) I also got a crate full of beers and some wine (for the gravy honest ;-) It was funny watching the kids and the maid looking on at the huge mess I was making in the kitchen and the strange "Yorkshire pudding: thing waiting to be cooked. I must say it all went very well and everyone loved it, and there was plenty of it!! Even Katrine the maid said next day "sharp course Georgy" and I believe that's means good food. I even made my own dish up made of small marrows in a cheese sauce. And my homemade Yorkshire was a success :-) Very pleased with myself and very full I retired with the rest of the wine to the lapa by the pool, where we sat and laughed and polished of the wine. I mentioned in passing that I had a snap light in my bag, the sort you literally snap in half and it gives out 8 hours of chemically induced light. Now Seun being a fireman, paramedic and an experienced diver knows all about these lights and the fun to be had with them. I am sorry but the photos didn't come out but we all ended up covered in the blue chemical me the most with my whole head and ears luminated blue!! I then had the cool idea of scaring the maid, we went over to her living area and knocked on her door, and after a bit of persuasion to open the door with the lights off she opened the door. Ha!! The screams that came out from that door!! lucky she trusts Seun and Jackie well or we could have been speared to death ;-) The next day after a healthy lie in I walked into the kitchen to a clean tidy area and not even a stern look from Katrine, infact she even told Seun and Jackie I should stay on!! Shame!
